SDC Publications
Vision:
To provide access to information related to colour in all its forms and to disseminate the latest research into colour science and education
As an educational resource, the spectrum of colour and textile-related publications available from the SDC is second to none. On offer are print, electronic and web-based products, including two peer-reviewed journals looking at colour from technical and design perspectives, as well as textbooks covering a full range of dyeing and finishing topics. Highlights:
- Books: the SDC catalogue of textbooks (of 25+ titles) reaches hundreds of students of colour science globally, with new editions planned of the best-selling SDC books, Wool Dyeing and Colour Physics for Industry
- Online colour: the full extent of the literature available in the technical journal Coloration Technology 125-year online archive is a vital resource for researchers and educators worldwide
- Alliances: the online journal Colour: Design & Creativity remains open access until the end of 2010 (i.e. free to all users) thanks to funding received from the Dyers’ Company, and alliances with other organisation allow for regular focused special issues (i.e. see issue 5, published in association with AIC, here)
- Quality articles: the impact factor for Coloration Technology – the key performance indicator for journals – continues an increasing trend, with a 30% increase to give a value published in 2010 of 1.130 (previous value, 0.843)
- Recognition for authors: the accolade of ‘award-winning’ is conveyed annually upon both technical and review articles published in the SDC journals; for aspiring authors striving to achieve this accolade, a list of criteria to consider is available here
- Knowledge base: available exclusively to SDC members, there are 2700+ articles within our online library available at the click of a button, allowing access to reviews and bulletins, selected journal papers and feature articles, all with a focus of colour...with topics ranging from science and technology, through to business and management to design and marketing.
- Technical content: publications in the form of best practice guides and standards are available, in addition to technical articles in the journals, and industry-focused technical commentaries that are regularly published in the SDC members’ magazine The Colourist and in the online knowledge base.
