Colin S O’Brien
Colin S O’Brien was appointed SDC President in 1988
Colin’s main occupation was with the British squad for full bore 7.62mm rifle shooting fired over 300-1000 yards, although also a Director with the Whitecroft Group. After military service with the Navy, Colin joined the Bradford Dyers’ Association in 1950 as an apprentice dyer. When qualified he moved to Oakroyd Dyeing Company in 1955 and worked with a young works manager called Harry Leach. In 1957 he moved to Ireland as works manager at Seafield Fabrics before becoming dyehouse manager and then departmental manager at Stevensons in Derby from 1959-1966. Following that period he joined the Bleachers’ Association as MD of Scottish Wool Bleachers & Dyers Ltd. Colin then held several MD positions in dyeing and finishing companies within the Whitecroft Group as well as holding several key trade related appointments with the British Textile Employer’s’ Association, the SDC and the British Textile Confederation.
