Chromatographic Separation of the Components of Commercial Syntans and Assessment of their Effectiveness as Stain-blocking Agents for Wool

Sulphonated aromatic aldehydes condensation products, or syntans, have been used as stain-blocking agents for nylon and wool carpets. In this study chromatographic procedures have been developed to separate commercial systems into their various components. The components from seven such syntans have been assayed for stain blocking on wool. These investigations showed that many of the components have negligible stain-blocking activity
