Enzyme-enhanced Bleaching of Wool

The whiteness obtained in wool bleaching is enhanced by the presence of a protease, with both peroxide bleaching and when sodium dithionite or bisulphite is used. This is because the enzyme makes the wool fibre more susceptible to the whitening action of the bleaching agent. However, the increased whiteness is accompanied by losses in both weight and strength
