Ethoxylated Amphoteric Products in Wool Dyeing

The influence of some amphoteric compounds and their degree of ethoxylation on both the aggregation state of two acid dyes and the dyeing kinetics of these on the wool fibres has been studied. The formation of amphoteric product-dye complexes and their resolution in the micelles of the amphoteric compound has been observed; the amphoteric product-dye molar ratio and the degree of ethoxylation of the amphoteric product have important influences. Rates of dyeing in the presence of an amphoteric product are, in general, faster than when the dye is present alone; the increase in ethoxylation reduces the absorption rate of the dye.
