Low-energy Preparation of Cotton and Cotton Blends

Presented at the 13th Congress of the International Federation of Associations of Textile Chemists and Colourists in London 21st September 1984. Surveys of current practice show that energy requirements for fabric preparation range between 10 and 30 GJ for each tonne of fabric produced. The procedure recommended in this paper consumes as little as 3.4 GJ/tonne. The process depends upon steam purging loom-state fabric prior to the fabric entering the preparation liquor, and combining the three separate stages of desizing, scouring and bleaching into a single-staged process
