Mun Lim Cheung – SDC President 2011

It is with deep sadness that we report the passing of the SDC’s first president from outside the UK.

Mun Lim Cheung, known as ML, joined the SDC in 1968 and was one of the founding members of the Hong Kong Region in 1972. He served several terms as an executive committee member of the region and twice as the Chairman of the Hong Kong Region.

ML began his career in textiles with his admission into the Department of Textile Industries, Hong Kong Technical College in 1959 and graduated in 1962 with a Diploma in Textiles.

He started working in the textile industry with a wool spinning company before moving to a dyeing factory, Pacific Dyeing Works Ltd. Later he worked for dyestuffs and textile auxiliaries’ companies. In the late 1980s ML started Winmount Ltd in Hong Kong.

ML became the SDC President on 13 May 2011. Sadly, ML passed away on 13 August 2025.

SDC Hong Kong Region Chairman, Fred Kam said ‘His remarkable contributions to the Society and to the textile industry as a whole have left a lasting impact, and his dedication and integrity will be remembered with deep respect and gratitude. At this difficult time, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of working with him. We honour his legacy and join in mourning the loss of a valued colleague and leader.’
