Graduated from Manchester University in 1947; after spending five years doing food analysis for United Dairies Ltd, joined the staff of the Water Research Centre (formerly the Water Pollution Research Laboratory) where she has been involved in analytical work and in research on surfactants, respirometry and ozone treatment of sewage effluents.
