SDC Education – Courses and Qualifications

Textile Coloration Science and Technology (TCST) Level 6

Investing in Excellence: A New Chapter in Colour Science Education Begins

This October marks the start of a new academic term for the Society of Dyers and Colourists’ (SDC) renowned higher level educational programmes under the heading, Textile Coloration Science and Technology (TCST). As the world of colour science within the global textiles industry continues to evolve, we are proud to welcome ambitious learners onto our advanced educational offerings.

Our community of learners includes those returning to further their journey towards the distinguished professional recognition of Chartered Colourist (CCol), via the Associateship of the Society of Dyers and Colourists (ASDC) by examination – as well as those just beginning their ASDC studies. We are also thrilled to welcome learners to our newest education pathway; SDC Certificate of Higher Education, which is offered as standalone modules. These single-module options maintain our ethos of providing a flexible educational route for professionals seeking to deepen their knowledge and expertise without committing to the full ASDC programme. Learners can enrol in any one of the six ASDC modules per year. Each module is assessed by examination to the same standard as the modules within the full ASDC programme. Successful candidates receive a Certificate of Higher Education from the SDC. For those who complete all six modules within the prescribed timeframe, the certificates can be exchanged for confirmation of the prestigious award of ASDC, and eligibility to apply for professional status as a Chartered Colourist (CCol) – an accolade that is recognised across the global textile coloration industry. The single-module option is also available without assessment or grading for those learners who are interested in the subject and wish to undertake academic exploration to broaden and deepen their knowledge without the pressure of an exam at the end.

A Call to Industry: Invest in Your Future

We are deeply grateful for the visionary support shown by forward-thinking UK employers such as Avocet, (a John Hogg company), who continue to invest in the growth and potential of their team through the SDC’s higher-level education.

ASDC graduates from recent years are now thriving with all having progressed into senior leadership positions within their respective organisations. Their success stories are a powerful testament to the value of employers investing in employee education.

Celebrating Global Talent

We are proud to welcome Mbiri Tsabola, from Zimbabwe, onto his final year of the ASDC by examination. Mbiri is the first recipient of the Maurice Tordoff Bursary fund.

We are proud to recognise Md. Zakir Hossan Imran from Bangladesh, who joins the ASDC by examination programme as a recipient of the Maurice Tordoff Bursary Fund.

Their commitment to professional development exemplifies the global reach and transformative potential of the educational offerings from the SDC.

Looking Ahead

Applications for the 2025/2026 academic year are now complete. However, interest is already building for 2026/2027 enrolment, and we invite all professionals and employers eager to lead the future of science and technology within the textile coloration industry to explore what our programmes can offer.
