Silver Medal awarded 2009 to Dr John Anthony Taylor

For significant contributions to the field of reactive dye chemistry

John has described his life as extraordinarily ordinary but his colleagues when they nominated him for a medal obviously did not think so. In his 25 years working for ICI/Zeneca he invented many commercially successful products including the market-leading Procion H-EXL dye range and dyes for inkjet printing.

After “retiring” in 1997 he continued to work at UMIST.
