The Assessment of the Uniformity of Continuous Shrink-resist Treatments by Light Microscopy

The uniformity of chlorination and/or polymer deposition in continuously shrink-resist-treated wool was assessed by using selected dyes and a fluorochrome, and examining stained fibres in cross-section under a tungsten/u.v. light microscope. The differing levels of staining between fibre sections within a sample provide an indication of the uniformity of treatment
