Editor changes at Coloration Technology
Coloration Technology is the SDC’s peer-reviewed journal. It has been published in conjunction with Wiley Publishing since 1999, as a relaunch of the Journal of the Society of Dyers and Colourists (JSDC), which first appeared in 1884.
Andrew Towns has been the Editor in Chief of Coloration Technology since 2011. In that time the publication has seen impressive developments, especially in the growth of its Impact Factor to an all-time high. It was entirely understandable when in 2025 he gave notice to allow a new Editor in Chief to continue that good work and guide the next phase of development of the Journal.
The SDC is extremely grateful to Andrew Towns for his long and impactful service in this role. Indeed, Andrew has generously continued as Editor in Chief beyond the end of 2025 as the Society sought a replacement.
The position was advertised through Wiley, and candidates were screened and interviewed by a panel that included Andrew along with Prof Martin Bide (Chair of the SDC Publications Committee), Prof Vien Cheung (SDC Honorary Secretary and Publications Committee member), Dr Graham Clayton (CEO, SDC) and Anna McMillan (Wiley). Martin Bide said “Andrew’s were big shoes to fill, so this was an onerous task. Wiley’s wide reach brought applicants from around the world, with many extensive CVs. We were glad to be able to identify a few highly suitable individuals for interview, and after that, to be able to name Andrew’s successor: or successors!”
The recruitment is now complete. Appropriate for the replacement of one who has achieved a great deal for the Journal, Andrew is to be succeeded by not one, but two individuals, who will jointly edit the Journal, beginning in April 2026. Notably, both are members of the Society.
Dr Mohammad Tajul Islam CCol FSDC, (Taj) will become the new Editor in Chief. He is Associate Professor at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology in Bangladesh and also has been a member of the Editorial Panel of Coloration Technology for 6 years having joined in Autumn 2020. He is also a member of the SDC Bangladesh Region Committee and involved with AATCC and The Textile Institute.
Prof Dr Roshan Paul CCol FSDC will become the new Associate Editor. He is associated with the University of Beira Interior, Portugal. Roshan has also been a member of the Editorial Panel of Coloration Technology for 17 years, having joined in 2008. Roshan is also involved with AATCC, is a Chartered Textile Technologist and a Fellow of the Textile Institute, a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Institute of Engineers (India), and a Fellow of the Textile Association (India).
The interview panel identified several advantages of two editors for Coloration Technology:
- The two can share the workload between them and can also support one another and cover for one another when required (vacations etc)
- One editor based in Europe and one based in Asia will improve international reach of Coloration Technology and associated conferences.
- The two editors have complimentary experiences and contacts, and widen the editorial reach and networks available to Coloration Technology. This will ensure the continued growth in scope and impact of the Journal.
