The Effect of Dye Characteristics on Their Compatibility in Mixtures as Assessed Through Colour Coordinates

Three different binary mixtures prepared by mixing disperse dyes having close hues were applied to polyester fabric at 4.0 % total depth. The compatibility of dyes in these binary mixtures was assessed qualitatively through use of various plots constructed from the differences in the CIELAB colour coordinates with respect to the undyed substrate, as well as the hue angle and K/S values. The compatibility behaviour shown by the three binary mixtures in the absence and the presence of levelling agent has been explained on the basis of molecular mass and colour strength of the component dyes
