The Use of Colour Physics in a Modern Dyehouse – A User’s Experience

This paper briefly describes the background to the modernization programme and the plant facilities installed. The claims made for the use of colour physics are outlined and the success in achieving these is discussed, bearing in mind that extensive laboratory work had already been completed. The requirements of the system for use in this particular dyehouse are outlined and details of the equipment are given. The method of using the system is discussed, with respect to dye selection and to dye purchasing. Practical details are given of the steps necessary to obtain high quality results from the prediction system. The reasons for using a colour-difference program and its method of operation are set out. Finally, the use of automation and colour physics in a new dyehouse is discussed. This paper is intended to provide a useful, practical case history when a dyeing organization with no research or development background in producing its own computer system purchases and installs an established system using existing programs, only slightly modified to meet its own particular needs
