Will Ink Jets Ever Replace Screens for Textile Printing?

The many problems involved in developing an ink-jet printer suitable for woven and knitted textiles are outlined. Efforts have been concentrated on adapting existing systems used for paper or carpet substrates. Work devised to produce a modular array of drop-on-demand valves to meet the required criteria is described, together with details of the selection of dyes and chemicals for a practical jet printing process
