Wool Fibres of Enhanced Lustre Obtained by Enzymatic Descaling

Wool fibres have been cleanly descaled and given enhanced lustre by padding at a low concentration of dichloroisocyanuric acid (0.6 – 1.0 g available chlorine per 100 g wool) and then treating under exhaust conditions with papain (0.1 g per 100 g wool). The methods is most successful on coarse fibre tops and also on hank yarn, but does not succeed on woven cloth. The wool is bleached to a level similar to that obtained in peroxide bleaching
