The recent Bangladesh heat of the International Design Competition showcased the best designs from fashion and textile undergraduates from across the country. The judging heat was held last week at the iconic Glass House, home to American and Efird international textile group.
After a closely fought battle Shuvadra Banik Nitu, a student from BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology took centre stage for her zero waste sustainable design. Also from BGMEA were runners up Md. Ziaur Rahaman and Bejoyan Ghose.
The panel of creative experts had the difficult task of selecting a winner from a range of very different entries from a talented group of designers but were particularly impressed with Shuvadra’s designs inspired by the wood apple. The distinguished panel included Angelo Leanage, Managing Director, American & Efird Bangladesh Ltd, Sanjeewa Malaviarachchi, General Manager, American & Efird Bangladesh Ltd, Bushra Nuzhat, Design Consultant, Sourav Chowdhury, Visual Artist & Executive Artistic Manager, Gallery Cosmos & Cosmos Atelier71, Sk. Saifur Rahman, News Editor, ATN News & Executive Editor of Canvas Magazine, General Secretary of the National Crafts Council of Bangladesh and Afsana Ferdousi, Fashion Designer, Activist and SDC competition co-ordinator, Bangladesh.
Sincere thanks to Afsana for organising the competition again this year, the judges for their support, American and Efird for the venue, all particiants and all who helped to make the event so sucessful.
Shuvadra is now preparing to represent Bangladesh at the next stage of the competition- the Grand Final to be held in November.
