Educating the changing world in the science of colour

China’s Top Design Talent

Huizhou University clothing and costume design underagraduate Qingye Wei has been named as China’s Top Design Talent at the recent heat of the International design competition where entries from participating universities and colleges from across China were welcomed.  The judging panel, a range of experts with experience spanning the fashion and textile industry spent a busy day inspecting the entries before selecting Qingye’s design ‘Frost and Fog’ as the winner.

The judges commented:

“Qingye WEI’s work is inspired by ice, which is pure and transparent but at the same time can reflect light and thus can appear with various colours. He focuses on cool tones for colours which helps to highlight the spirit of ice, and mixes linen with cotton threads for materials to stress the origin of nature. Together with novel craftmanship, his work is trendy, and represents a harmony among colour, fabric and nature.”

Sincere thanks to Shangshang Li, SDC competition co-ordinator and the incredible judging panel including top fashion designer Ms. Zihan Lin, Professor Jiaqiu Zhang, College of Arts, Beijing Union University and Professor Chang’an Jin, College of Arts and Design, Lingnan Normal University.

We look forward to meeting Qingye at the Grand Final in November.
