Claire Malone, a BA Textile Surface Design student from the National College of Art and Design, Dublin is celebrating being named ‘Top Talent’ at the recent Ireland heat of the SDC International Design Competition in Belfast. Some incredible designs from institutions across Ireland were submitted for the judging heat but Claire’s digital print design ‘Rarity’ caught the judge’s attention for its “wonderful palette, exquisite detail and perfectly balanced colour”.
Worthy rivals from Belfast School of Art, Orla Phillips and Amy Dean were awarded Runner-up for their ‘great use of colour and materials’, whilst Anna Gardiner from National College of Art and Design received a judge’s commendation for her ‘great combination of vivid colour and concept’. Huge thanks to our industry expert judges, Duncan Neil, Creative Director at Earthed by William Clark and Julie Hall, Head of Design, Bedeck for their inspiring presentations and the tough decisions they were faced with. Well done to all our entrants and to SDC Northern Ireland Chairman, Paul Santokhi for organising another sucessful event.
Claire, pictured right with SDC’s Paul Santokh, is looking forward to the next stage of the competition, the Grand Final, where she will represent her country, competing with students from all over the world to become the global winner 2018.
