Congratulations to Chloe Ballard, a ‘Textile, Art, Design and Fashion’ student from The University of Ulster who took the top prize at the recent Ireland heat of our annual flagship competition, the International Design Competition.
Guest judges Julie Hall, Head of Creative Design at Bedeck and Susie Page, Design Manager, Magee Weaving were inspired and delighted to see a variety of exciting designs submitted by shortlisted entrants from across Ireland and carefully selected Chloe as their winner after much deliberation for her ‘bold use of colour and ‘on trend design’. The judges were also impressed by designs from runners-up Lydia McGarvey also from Ulster University and Tara Costello from National College of Art and Design, whilst a special commendation went to Maya Todd from Belfast Met.
Chloe comments, “It is such a privilege to be chosen to represent Ireland in the grand final. I am so passionate about what I do in creating new, playful, colourful work that is engaging and relevant …… As a new young designer I recognise the significance of this opportunity to have my work exposed to a larger audience”. We wish Chloe every success at the Grand Final of the competition to be held in November.
Many thanks to SDC Northern Ireland Chairman, Paul Santokhi for organising an excellent event, all our entrants and to our hard working judges.
