Diana Zitha, a visual arts fashion and textile design student from the Nelson Mandela University earned national honours in the recent South African leg of the SDC International Design Competition after taking first place at the recent nationwide heat. Diana’s Design for a Circular Economy entitled ‘Emotional Attachments’ based on the Shangaani tribal culture caught the attention of the judges including Durban based artist Carina Weineck and designer, Ailsa Moffat. Diana is now gearing up to compete against finalists from around the world at the Grand Final to be held in Colombo in November.
Diana comments “This is a defining moment in my life and career as a fashion & textile designer because I was competing against the best design students in the country of which some are my friends and classmates”.
