ASDC graduate interview: Wayne Brown

Dyehouse manager Wayne Brown, 30, of Johnstons of Elgin, is the proud holder of the degree-equivalent ASDC qualification, following four years of study.

We first talked to him for this blog when he was hard at work on final modules. Today we meet Wayne again, to chat about his learning experience and future plans.

Congratulations on achieving ASDC! So how did you first get into coloration as a career?

I saw an apprenticeship role for Johnstons of Elgin, in the dyehouse. The role needed some background in science, and I’d just completed a qualification in applied science.

Tell us about your job today.

In my job as a dyehouse manager, I know all the necessary aspects of production, colour matching and dyeing processes, as well as handling other duties that are more managerial.

What difference will holding ASDC mean to you?

This will mean a lot, as it is something I completed while progressing my career from apprentice to manager.

What was your experience of studying online like?

You can study when it best suits you, and you can watch the lecture as many times as you need or want to, at any time of the day.

How did you feel when you saw your results? And now?

I’m glad I passed and completed ASDC after a challenging year, full time at work and balancing new family life. I also now feel a sense of achievement, as this sort of course isn’t any easy task.

What are your future ambitions?

I plan to take a break from studying, but will be looking into another course to broaden my skills for the future.

Thanks for your time Wayne, and good luck for the next stage in your career!
