Do you know someone who deserves a medal?

Nominations are open for SDC medal nominations – and we would love as many of our members as possible to put someone forward for this honour!

Nominating a fellow coloration professional is easy. They do not need to be a member of the SDC to qualify. Simply fill out the online form.

You must keep your nomination quiet – do not ask them or notify them – so that if they are chosen it will be a lovely surprise!

Each submission requires a seconder, which you should organise before you start the application. There is no deadline, it’s a rolling cycle of awards – but if you do this soon, your nominee may be receiving an accolade at our Day of Celebration in York in November!

Please note that you cannot nominate yourself. Also, company members, college or university members and student members are not eligible to submit medal nominations.

What information is needed?

We will need some detailed information to be able to consider your nomination. As well as your details and those of the seconder we require the full name, email, phone number and postal address of the nominee.

You should prepare a supporting evidence statement covering why you think the nominee should be awarded a medal. You may wish to prepare this detail before filling in the form so you can copy and paste it.

Even if you think members of the SDC Medal Committee are probably aware of your nominee, write as though the information is new to them. Make no assumptions that their achievements are well known.

You do not need to worry about whether your recipient deserves a gold, silver or bronze medal. We will assess this from the information provided.

If you want to upload any supporting documents, please make sure you have them to hand.

How do the medal categories work?

Bronze, silver and gold medals are not hierarchical. They do not represent greater or lesser recognition. A gold medal is typically awarded for significant or outstanding contributions and achievements.

A silver medal reflects more prolonged and dedicated service, and a bronze medal tends to be conferred for enthusiastic and sustained work at a more focused level, such as for an SDC region or committee.

The type of medal is not awarded based on position or seniority of the nominee but on the details of the work for which they are nominated. More information is provided via guidance accessed from the online form.
