Dr John Easton, SDC Honorary Member will give a presentation entitled ’25 Years of Textile Sustainability – have we seen material change?’

Refreshments will be available on arrival and the evening will start at 7pm with a short presentation about the SDC’s Colour Education Pathway followed by Dr Easton’s presentation.
John Easton was born in Oldham and studied Natural Sciences at Cambridge University before taking a PhD in Chemistry at UMIST in 1980. He started his career at ICI Blackley and in 1991 was appointed Safety, Health & Environment Adviser for the dyes business, going on to fill this role for Zeneca, BASF and DyStar. Prior to his recent retirement, John was Ecology Solutions Manager for DyStar Textile Services.
John has 30+ years experience as a Textile Chemist working for major dyestuff manufacturers. In particular he has gained extensive knowledge of the environmental issues affecting the textile supply chain and has sought to develop ways of communicating these complex issues to a lay audience. He is also well-versed in regulatory issues having been a member and Chairman of ETAD Regulatory Affairs Committee and the CIA Dyestuff Sector Group.
John has been a member of SDC for nearly 40 years and in 2003 was awarded a Silver Medal ‘For services to industry in the field of ecology and environment’. In 2009 John became a Chartered Colourist and Fellow of the SDC and in 2010 he was awarded a Gold Medal ‘For outstanding service to colour education and the SDC‘.
In 2016 he was awarded the highest accolade bestowed on an SDC Member, Honorary Membership, ‘For long and exemplary service in the furtherance of colour science and technology in particular in the fields of safety and ecology, and also for outstanding service to the Society’s publications and financial governance‘.
