Colleges and universities from across the North of England are invited to submit entries for the regional judging heat of our annual competition which will be held on Wednesday 21st March at Perkin House, Bradford. The afternoon will begin at 12.30pm with a light lunch followed by a student workshop and the judging. Entries will be judged by a panel of textile creatives and specialists with extensive experience in the industry.

This will be followed by a complimentary buffet available from 6pm and a presentation from guest speaker Dr Tracy Cassidy, Hudderfield University, ‘A Researcher’s Perspective of Colour Forecasting’. Tracy will talk about Colour Forecasting – The underlying principles of colour forecasting, its purpose and the process, now have a history spanning a full century. While the trend forecasting sector, as it is today, was developed predominantly in 1960s / 70s, the first known colour forecasting agency established in America in 1915, is still in existence today. This presentation provides a brief overview of the historical context and considers the importance of the role of colour forecasting in the fashion and textile industry before discussing the practice of colour forecasting. It highlights the effects and impact of colour and trend forecasting with a particular focus on the consequences of the process and system on business, consumers and on the environment, drawing on the theory of planned obsolescence and on the sustainability of the system itself.

The winner of the competition will then be announced followed by presentations to 50-year members. The regional AGM will be held at 8.15pm

Full programme for the day to be confirmed.
