Christine Holdstock became involved in the area of colour when she joined Wira (the Wool Industries Research Association) after completing a BSc in Chemistry at the University of Sheffield in 1977.  At Wira she undertook research into the control of the dyeing process, and was awarded a PhD from the University of Leeds.  Christine’s work at Wira involved many aspects of dyes and dyeing as well as colour measurement.

Christine joined the Department of Colour Chemistry and Dyeing at the University of Leeds in 1993.  She taught many aspects of Colour Science, including the history of coloration, human colour vision, colour measurement, dyes and dyeing – from textiles to high-tech applications.

Christine was awarded the SDC’s Silver medal for “Prolonged service to the Society particularly in Colour Measurement” in 2014, and became a Fellow of the SDC in 2015.  Christine recently retired from the University and is now a Colour Science Consultant.
