SDC North of England Region – Mike Crabtree Memorial Lecture

You are warmly invited to attend the first presentation of the SDC North of England Region’s 2017/2018 programme on Wednesday 27 September from 6.30pm at SDC headquarters in Perkin House, Bradford.
Mike Crabtree was a dedicated member of the Region and this annual lecture is held in his memory.
Dr Christine Holdstock CCol FSDC will give a presentation entitled, ‘A History of Dyes: from Ancient Egypt to Cancer Treatments’.
The lecture starts at 7.15pm and there is a hot buffet available from 6.30pm. It is free to attend but please register your attendance for catering purposes; email: email@example.com.
Entrance is via the Colour Experience on Providence Street, BD1 2PW. There is plenty of street parking around the building that is not restricted after 6pm.
Christine Holdstock became involved in the area of colour when she joined Wira (the Wool Industries Research Association) after completing a BSc in Chemistry at the University of Sheffield in 1977. At Wira she undertook research into the control of the dyeing process, and was awarded a PhD from the University of Leeds. Christine’s work at Wira involved many aspects of dyes and dyeing as well as colour measurement.
Christine joined the Department of Colour Chemistry and Dyeing at the University of Leeds in 1993. She taught many aspects of Colour Science, including the history of coloration, human colour vision, colour measurement, dyes and dyeing – from textiles to high-tech applications.
Christine was awarded the SDC’s Silver medal for “Prolonged service to the Society particularly in Colour Measurement” in 2014, and became a Fellow of the SDC in 2015. Christine recently retired from the University and is now a Colour Science Consultant.
