The following extract from Chapter 1 of Synthetic Fibre Dyeing (ed. Chris Hawkyard) gives a good summary and overview to some of the general concepts of Fibre Production and provides a useful refresher regarding the principles of polymerisation and fibre production.

A useful tool to print off and use for all fibre related courses is this Fibre Classification Diagram. When answering questions in essays or examinations it is always useful to show that you can use and understand both the full form and short form of fibre names. When writing long answers it is best practice to use both forms the first time that the name is used and then the short term can be used after that. e.g. Lyocell, CLY.

It is recommended that you print the Fibre Classification Diagram and keep it as a hand reference at all times when you are studying the ASDC course.
