SDC Protocol for Medal Awards and Citations

The awarding of SDC Medals is overseen by the SDC Medals Committee who decide on if a medal is awarded, based on nomination data submitted, as well as deciding the type of Medal to be awarded.

Note that the Bronze, Silver and Gold Medals are not hierarchical, or represent greater or lesser recognition.  A Gold, Silver or Bronze Medal is awarded in accordance with the nature of the nomination. The Medals Committee base their decision entirely on the nomination submitted. Below are some example citations to assist in explaining the assigning of a Medal.  A Gold Medal is typically awarded for significant or outstanding contributions and achievements therefore.  A Silver Medal reflects more prolonged and dedicated service, whilst a Bronze Medal is typically awarded for enthusiastic and sustained work at a more focused level (eg Region or Committee).  Whilst there is some overlap the collective decision of the SDC Medals Committee decides the type of Medal to be awarded. Hence, a Silver Medal may be awarded to someone who is very senior and experienced since the nomination refers to prolonged and dedicated service – the type of medal is not awarded based on position or seniority of the nominee but on the details of the work for which they are nominated.

Gold:

• For significant contribution to the Society’s educational activities
• For outstanding contributions to in the field of coloration technology and education
• For exceptional contributions to industry in [Country]
• For outstanding contributions to education and industry in the field of polymer and colour sciences
• For outstanding contributions to the coloration industry in the field of environmental control
• For prolonged and distinguished academic research particularly in [process]
• Prolonged and distinguished service to the textile industry in [country]
• For outstanding achievements in the use of dyes in textile and electronics industries

Silver:

• For significant contribution to the Society’s educational activities
