Surface Barrier Effects in Wool Dyeing. Part II – Studies of Surface Barrier and Bulk Diffusion using a Radioactively Labelled Dye

In Part I, experiments were described which confirmed the presence of a surface barrier to dyeing in wool fibres existent in the exocuticular component of the cuticle layer. In the present paper, studies are reported which have been concerned with the diffusion characteristics of the surface and the bulk of wool fibres. Special methods, entailing isotopic labelling of the diffusing dye anions, have been empoyed which have enabled diffusion into wool fibres, rather than model systems, to be examined
