Student membership is both great value for money as well as great for your career development.  If you are currently studying full time on a course then you are eligible.  Student members gain free access to all our webinars (past recordings and future live webinars and the recordings of them), access to The Colourist our online members’ magazine, plus access to the SDC network to help develop and support your career. We offer Membership Subscriptions that can be paid Monthly, Annually or every 3 years.  You can join online at any time and pay online with debit or credit cards or, if in the UK, set up a Direct Debit from your bank account.

The main membership of the SDC is via individual memberships.  These start as Non-Voting membership which can then be upgraded on application, but no extra charge, to Voting Membership.  Voting Membership entitles you to be a full member of the SDC and subsequently to apply for Chartered Colourist status.

A Voting Member is required to have have been adequately trained in a colour related discipline or another professional occupation in any working environment in which colour plays a significant part.

Chartered Colourist is the highest status of our membership and the SDC is the only organisation in the world able to offer the status of Chartered Colourist.  This arose due to the SDC possessing a Royal Charter, awarded in 1963.  Chartered Colourists need to be a Voting member of the SDC and non-retired Chartered Colourists need to undertake Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to keep themselves updated.  This CPD can be in a number of forms and our CPD system is open to all SDC Members to use – after all we hope all our members aspire to CCol status and as many as possible achieve it, so our CPD system access helps them develop in that direction and make a seamless transition when they achieve Chartered Colourist status. Please note that to become a Chartered Colourist you must first become an Individual (Non-Voting) SDC Member (see above), upgrade at no extra cost to a SDC Voting Member and then apply for Chartered Colourist Status.

Fellowship of the SDC (FSDC) is a status awarded on application to those individuals who have demonstrated their distinction in the knowledge or practice of colour science or colour technology.
FSDC is ideal for:
• Those from the world of academia or industrial technology, whose contributions take the form of published papers
• Those who can demonstrate outstanding performance or distinction in other areas of coloration
• Individuals holding senior positions in disciplines such as production or technical management, engineering or marketing.

This category of membership is for Colleges and University Departments who can then assign students and staff to that membership.  It entails access to our webinars and Digital Archive, plus events specifically for Education Provider Members.  Members also can access discounts on our online book store, access The Colourist Magazine in our online Digital Archive, and Educational Provider Members can also take part in our long standing International Design Competition.

Educational Provider Organisation Membership is open to any educational establishment and can be taken out online, at any time and payments can be online with debit or credit cards or, if in the UK, set up a Direct Debit from your bank account.

Company Membership enables a company to assign up to 20 members of their staff under their SDC Membership, permitting them access to a number of SDC webinars, discounts on SDC Publications plus opportunities to present a SDC Webinar on their company’s area of expertise.  Our Company Members are featured in The Colourist Magazine from time to time (all SDC Members can view The Colourist in our online Digital Archive)
