Accounts
The Annual Report and Accounts once approved by the Society’s Board and signed by the Auditors are then submitted to the SDC Annual General Meeting. Following this they are then submitted to the Charity Commission and available free of charge to the general public. The Charity Commission makes available the last five SDC Annual Reports and Accounts.
SDC Members (of all categories) can access Annual Report and Accounts via the SDC website in the Digital Archive where past Annual Reports and Accounts are being uploaded. Note that to access these members must first login in the Members Area and search in the Digital Archive under the Category ‘Annual Report and Accounts’. (As of February 2023 there are 48 years of SDC Annual Report and Accounts available with more being uploaded).
Committees
- The SDC Audit Committee takes responsibility on behalf of the members of the SDC for monitoring the performance of the SDC Board, reviewing the governance structure and overseeing the financial reporting process.
- The SDC Finance Committee monitors the ongoing expenditure and income of the Society and sets the annual budgets.
- The SDC Projects Evaluation Group (PEG) manages the development projects of the Society within the financial resources available and reports to the Society’s Board.
- The SDC Examinations, Qualifications and Accreditation Board manage the Society’s course curricula and examinations as well as applications for Chartered and Fellow Status.
- The SDC Membership Committee focuses on membership matters in an aim to develop and grow the SDC Membership.
- The SDC Publications Committee work with our Publishers Wiley to grow and develop the peer reviewed Coloration Technology journal and our SDC textbook offering.
- The SDC Future World Working Party reports to the Society’s Board and seeks to determine and steer the future activity of the Society, keeping it relevant to our international membership.
- The SDC Medals Committee evaluates the medal nominations received from SDC Members and decides if a medal is appropriate as well as the type of medal awarded.
- The SDC Nominations Committee calls for nominations as appropriate for trustee places on the Society’s Board, for those to become Honorary Officers and for members of the SDC Audit and SDC Nominations Committees.
- The Colour Index Pigment & Solvent Dyes Technical Board oversees the content of the Colour Index™ which is marketed and supplied via SDC Enterprises Ltd
SDC By-laws
The By-laws of the Society were last updated at the Privy Council in July 2009. The original By-laws were appended to the Royal Charter and the 2009 document supersedes these
SDC Royal Charter
The SDC was awarded a Royal Charter in 1963 by the later Queen Elizabeth II. Several amendments were made to the Royal Charter between 1963 and 2005. In 1975 the power of Fellows to use FSDC and Associates to use ASDC were added. In 1978 the power to use the post-nominal was added for Fellows and Associates (but specifically not permitted for Honorary FSDC’s. In 1985 the power to use the CCol post-nominal was extended to include Graduate Di-locates of the Society.
The Royal Charter has been amended in July 2009 primarily to:
- Change the term The Council to The Trustee Board
- To change the Members Corporate title to Voting Members
- To change the Members Non-Corporate to Non-Voting Members
- To amend the Objects of the Charity from “colouring matters” to “matters relating to colour” and to delete the reference to a “monthly journal”.
SDC Rules
The Society’s Board may from time to time, make, vary and revoke the SDC Rules for the regulation of the affairs of the Society and the conduct of members. However those Rules marked with * may only be changed at a General Meeting of the Society.
