The Influence of Washing Powder Components on Dye Loss and Dye Fading
Dye loss and dye fading from coloured textiles on washing is often attributed solely to the action of the bleach contained in the fabric washing powder. In contrast, this study demonstrates the active agents other than the bleach system play a significant role in the colour maintenance properties of detergent formulations. The consequences of omitting a bleach from a detergent formulation, in terms of loss of wash performance and biocidal activity, are discussed.
