Theme for 2022/2023: Colour For Good – for Planet and People
The SDC International Design Competition is renowned for bringing together students, researchers, industry professionals, and designers from around the world to give undergraduate students a platform to showcase their creativity and vision on an international scale.
The competition helps the entrants develop their understanding of colour and the challenges around sustainability in the textile supply chain.
The theme for 2022/23 is ‘Colour For Good – for Planet and People’.

Prizes
The winner of the heat in each country will go forward to the online global grand final which will take place in November 2023. The global winner will receive a trophy and international media exposure.

Competition Rules
Background
Heats are held in participating countries. One finalist from each country will be chosen and all the finalists will be invited to the online grand final where the global winner will be selected.
Who can enter?
The competition is open to SDC College Members only within the following countries:
Australia, Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Pakistan, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Thailand, America & United Kingdom.
Entrants must be pursuing a fashion or textiles Undergraduate degree at a SDC College Member University or College at the time of entry.
Age limit: Students must be 18 or over on 1 April 2022.
Entries must be endorsed by the course leader and submitted online. Individual entries will not be considered.
Basis of submission
The work can be based on a fashion or textile design project produced as part of the standard course curriculum or specifically for the competition.
Entry is through the college tutor and photographs of students’ boards and supporting written commentary to be uploaded to the SDC website.
No extra portfolio or body of work should be submitted outside of the required deliverables
Only one product should be designed per entry (This can be presented in various colourways).
Imagery of physical prototypes are welcome however; a physical prototype is not required for submission as this is a concept design. Despite this, please bear in mind that the product must still hold commercial viability.
Judging
Entries will be judged by respected professionals from the fashion and textile industry.

Publicity
The work of the finalists will be digitally displayed during the heats and final. The winners will receive publicity in the international press and in SDC’s own publications.
Intellectual property
The intellectual property rights (patents, registered designs etc) in all designs submitted in the competition remain with the student. However, the SDC reserves the right to use the designs for exhibition/display purposes and to reproduce them in reports, on the website and social media channels, in press releases and in any other publicity material.
