6.10 Dyes for Polyamide Fibres

The accompanying script for this lesson is provided in the Transcript Document

This extract from chapter 9 of the book, Physico-chemical Aspects of Textile Coloration by S.M. Burkinshaw is a good accompaniment for this topic.

This extract from chapter 3 of the book,  Synthetic Fibre Dyeing, edited by Chris Hawkyard is provided for additional reading regarding dyes for nylon substrates.

This extract from chapter 13 of the book Basic Principles of Textile Coloration, by Arthur Broadbent provides an overview of the dyeing of nylon with acid dyes.

This  paper  (Xun Xu and Ren-Cheng Tang, Coloration Technology 2026:142:365-376), titled “Investigations on the migration properties of acid dyes in the dyeing of polyamide microfibre” gives an interesting report into the uptake and migration of acid dyes in the dyeing of polyamide microfibre.

This  paper  (Ji Jun-Ling et al., Coloration Technology 2007:123:333-338), titled “The dyeing of nylon with a microencapsulated disperse dye”, gives an interesting report into the use of microencapsulated disperse dyes to replace commercial disperse dyes in the dyeing of polyamide fibres without the inclusion of dyeing additives, with the resulting effluent being easily recycled after filtration.

This  paper  (Joonseok Koh et al., Coloration Technology 2001:117:156-160), titled “pH control in the dyeing of polyamide with acid dyes”, provides an interesting study into a number of pH control systems for the dyeing of polyamide fibres in a closed dyeing procedure.

This  paper (Blackburn and Burkinshaw, JSDC, 114(03), 1998), looks at the after treatment of 1:2 metal complex acid dyes on conventional and microfibre nylon 6.6 with a commercial syntan/cation system.

Additional Background Reading for this Lesson

This  paper (Scott and Vickerstaff, JSDC, 76(02), 1960), is provided for additional interest and background reading and examines the use of reactive dyes for nylon.

This  paper (Shore, JSDC, 87(02), 1971), is provided for additional interest and background reading and examines the after treatment of anionic dyes on nylon fibres.
