The Maurice Tordoff ASDC Bursary Fund
This Fund provides bursaries in support of SDC Education course fees, particularly to cover the SDC Course in Textile Coloration Science and Technology. This leads to the degree comparable ASDC qualification (Associateship of the Society of Dyers and Colourists).
The Fund was established in 1992 in memory of the late Dr Maurice Tordoff, former Chief Executive and General Secretary of the SDC. It exists to provide finance to support students undertaking part-time education in colour science and technology. This is a discretionary Bursary, covering 100% of the ASDC course fee.
Availability – up to 3 Maurice Tordoff Bursaries per year are available over the next 3 years (ie for ASDC courses commencing Oct 2024, Oct 2025, Oct 2026) plus one Maurice Tordoff Bursary was awarded in Oct 2023.
Target – Employees within the coloration industry worldwide, who are high achievers and performers, working in companies that are not able to fund employee education.
Criteria/Eligibility to Apply
- Qualifications in-line with requirements for the course as set out in the Prospectus.
- English Language IELTS as set out in the course Prospectus.
- Special individual circumstances and/or financial need. (This will be a key focus of the SDC Bursary Committee).
- Character reference from the current employer.
- Education reference from an academic institution.
- Applicants will be asked to submit a written justification of “Why you should receive this fund/bursary” (500-1000 words) covering:
- Value of the qualification and potential future professional development
- Future value and commitment to the SDC
- Applicants will be requested to attend a viva style interview (online/face to face)
Application deadline
May 31st of the intended start year. Interviews will take place in June/July. Final decision from the SDC Bursary Committee by July 31st of the intended start year.
