Course Overview
This webinar explored the Crutchley Archive in Southwark Archives and explained the textile history significance of these rare eighteenth-century dye books from a wool fabric dyeing business in London and their inscription into the UNESCO Memory of the World UK register. The speaker described highlights from the many dyeing instructions and colourful dyed patterns in the books and showed how interdisciplinary research from historical textual study, textile history, scientific material analysis and conservation science led to recognition of the collection as protected heritage. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A.
