Dr Kan is an exceptionally well experienced academic who is since July 2019 Professor in Coloration and Finishing at the Institute of Textiles and Clothing within Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Prior to this he has been: Distinguished Chair Professor, Department of Fiber and Composite Materials, Feng Chia University, Taiwan (Aug 2021 – July 2022); Honorary Professor Faculty of Science and Technology, Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong, Hong Kong (July 2012 – June 2019); Associate Professor/Assistant Professor/Lecturer at the Institute of Textiles and Clothing, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong (Oct 1998 – June 2012); Occupational Safety Officer II Labour Department, The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Hong Kong (March 1998 – Oct 1998); Assistant Laboratory Manager Specialized Technology Resources(H.K.) Limited, Hong Kong (April 1995 – March 1998); Research Student Institute of Textiles and Clothing, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong (Sept 1995 – July 1997); Tutor (Part-time) Institute of Textiles and Clothing, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong (July 1994 – March 1995).
Since December 2020 Dr Kan has been a Member of the Publications Committee, American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists, USA; and from May 2019 – present a Member of the SDC Nominations Committee, Society of Dyers and Colourists, UK. Since July 2017 he has been the Honorary Secretary, Hong Kong Institution of Textile and Apparel, Hong Kong and from Jan 2007 – Dec 2019 was the Honorary Secretary, The Hong Kong Society of Dyers and Colourists, Hong Kong.
Dr Kan has been involved in the SDC International Design Award in Hong Kong in 2008 – 2017 and has been organiser or organiser of SDC Conferences such as: SDC International Conference “Fashioning Colour Responsibly What is your approach be”, 7 December, 2012; SDC International Conference “Reduce, Recycle, Reuse”, 2 December, 2011.
