Mick started his career in the Technical Service Laboratories of Yorkshire Chemical Ltd in 1977. It was here that he met his wife to be. He attended Bradford College on day release and obtained his CCol, ASDC in1983.
In 1986 he joined Benson Turner (Dyers) Ltd working in the Laboratory providing colour matching and technical support. During this time, he studied for a certificates in Management and Health and Safety. He progressed to become Technical Director and remained so until it’s closure in 2002. He then became the Technical Representative for Quarmby and Sykes until it also closed. Following this he became Dyehouse Manager at Edwin Woodhouse Ltd until the dyehouse was closed in 2006. Finally he joined ATC Dyers as Production Manager until his retirement in 2018.
Whilst working at YCL that it was strongly suggested that he joined, The West Riding Region Committee (now The Northern Region), as a means of progressing within the industry. He has been a member ever since and as acted as both Hon Secretary and Hon Treasurer on more than one occasion. During this time, he has been awarded the Turner Scholefield Award as well as Bronze and Silver medals.
For a short period, when employment allowed, he was also a member of the SDC Council.
Mick became SDC Honorary Treasurer at the SDC 2021 AGM.
Mick lives in West Yorkshire and, when his joints allow, enjoys golf and walking.
