Marquee 2019: Planet @Fashion.in

MARQUEE 2019 is a theme-centric annual showcase of talent to celebrate the creativity of the graduating students of Le Márk School of Art and Design and applaud their entry into the professional world. Le Márk is a college member of the SDC.

The objective of this show was to give their students, who are budding fashion designers, a platform to get a real feel of their chosen field. Working and networking opportunities with designers, brands, national and international companies, suppliers, manufacturers, film and television industry helps them learn crucial aspects. It has been fostering designers and their nascent inventions into couture through fashion and academia and celebrated the 16th Annual Fashion Awards Nite in May 2019 at Sri Shanmukhananda Chandrasekarendra Saraswati Auditorium. Hugo D’Souza anchored the proceedings.

Celebrating the earth, the students presented Planet @Fashion.in reflecting the spectrum of India, coordinated by Ms Samira Shah, Founder and Director and Ms Raju Bhatia, Fashion Consultant of Le Márk School. The Fashion Skill Development Corporation, Textiles Committee, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, Textile Association, CMAI, Green Acres Academy as well as the SDC supported the event.

The dignitaries included Chief Guest Mr Rahul Mehta, President, Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI) who commented one should be creative, innovative and yet commercially viable and socially responsible.

The list of special and honoured guests was a visual Who’s Who of the fashion industry as also the panel of judges. Various musical and dance items were presented on the occasion besides showcasing marine ecosystem supporting sustainable development, beach wear, fabrics processed with aqua colours besides digital prints; reflected flow of beauty and nature; sundry collections of student designers, saffron world etc.

The student’s take on the latest trends of cuts, colours, designs, styles and inspiration, smart utilisation of resources and techniques were clubbed with better clothing consumption and improved recycling methodology to help bring about holistic change. Preserving the environment through sustainable practices in the industry such as preventing chemical effluence by opting for spray dyeing and digital printing, recycling textile wastage to enhance embroideries, fast fashion with zero wastage and awareness about adaptive clothing and inclusive fashion.
