Who won what at the SDC Day of Celebration: Our roll call of recipients in full
Recent SDC course graduates, long-serving members and medallists gathered to be honoured at the Society of Dyers and Colourists’ first in-person Day of Celebration since 2019.
Three years of accolades were presented during a glorious afternoon at the historic Merchant Adventurers’ Hall in York.
Compere Mike Huston welcomed attendees from as far afield as USA, India, China, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh for an afternoon awards ceremony. An evening dinner followed, at which two past presidents and our current president made speeches.
Current President Ullhas Nimkar shared with the audience details of his long career and his passion for colour. He highlighted the close relationship he has with the SDC that continues to inform and inspire his every working day.
Talking about the challenges of current sustainability agendas, Ullhas remarked: “Today’s colourist needs to be a biologist, toxicologist, zoologist and environmental scientist!”
In a rousing address, he added he was confident that if many organisations including the SDC get together and join hands to tackle the climate crisis, success will follow. “We can and we will!” he pledged.
